The United States Under-23 National Team had no problems against Cuba in their opening game of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament.  Playing in front of a small crowd at Nashville’s massive LP Field, the USA was on the board 11 minutes in when Joe Corona scored.  Cuba did themselves no favors, with Jose Macias shown a red card in the 20th minute.  Juan Agudelo would score a tremendous goal to make it 2-0 in the 37th, with Corona getting his second of the night three minutes later.  It was 4-0 USA in the 43rd through a Cuba own-goal.  The second-half was more of the same, with Freddy Adu scoring in the 62nd and Corona finishing off his hat-trick in the 88th minute.  The United States plays El Salvador on Saturday (9pm ET – Universal Sports Network, Mun2, CONCACAF.com).  El Salvador played out a scoreless draw with Canada in the opening game of Group A.

"We’re obviously pleased with the strong start, but we’re also not satisfied with the performance," US coach Caleb Porter said. "Even though the result was lopsided, I still thought it could have been better. Early in the game we were a little bit shaky in the buildup. The defending could have been a little tighter. It’s a little bit to be expected in the first game of the tournament. The nice thing is they settled in. You saw in the second half it was sharper, the defending was better, and you could see what we are capable of doing when we play quickly, the spacing is good, and the ball moves. I thought we put together some very attractive sequences and it was very effective, and I think we’ll get better and better as the tournament goes on. We’ll keep grounded on this one, file it away, and get ready for Canada."
