Michael Parkhurst’s Nordsjaelland played a strong first-half against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday, but had no answer in the second. Morten Nordstrand opened the scoring for Nordsjaelland at their Parken Stadium in the 24th minute. Shakhtar equalized two minutes later, but Nordsjaelland responded with a 29th minute goal from Kasper Lorentzen. Shakhtar equalized just before halftime and dominated the second-half, scoring three more goals. Parkhurst picked up a yellow card three minutes into stoppage time. With one point from five games in Group E, Nordsjaelland will finish fourth regardless of what happens on the final match day. Shakhtar leads the group with undefeated Juventus in second and Chelsea still in contention in third.
In England’s League One, Frank Simek’s Carlisle United lost 3-1 to Doncaster Rovers. Doncaster were up two goals when David Symington scored for Carlisle in the 66th minute. Carlisle are 19th in the table. Robbie Rogers subbed on in the 66th minute for Stevenage in a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth. Stevenage’s Greg Tansey opened the scoring in the 27th minute with Bournemouth equalizing in the 74th. Stevenage are 5th, five points back of League One leaders Tranmere Rovers.
