The Championship was in action on Tuesday, with no prohibition against lower divisions playing on a Champions League match day. Danny Williams scored in Reading's 3-2 win over Brentford at the Madejski Stadium. Jon Swift put Reading up in the 22nd minute. Brentford equalized in the 63rd and went ahead three minutes later. Williams equalized in the 77th. Roy Beerens scored Reading's winner in the 81st minute.
“It was a crazy game,” Williams said. “I think it was one of the craziest this season! The first 20 minutes we started very well and then we just lost track a bit and the game started to open up. It just felt like the momentum was going back and forth, it was a tough one and everyone was very tired, but the lads were buzzing in the dressing room after the game. It’s a massive result. It shows you the character again. It’s something we’ve shown many times this season."
Tim Ream's Fulham beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Craven Cottage. Eric Lichaj wasn't available for Forest due to a red card suspension. Forest took the lead in the 2nd minute through Pajtim Kasami. Tom Cairney equalized for Fulham in the 30th and Lucas Piazon put them up three minutes later. Ben Brereton equalized for Forest in the 47th. A Forest own goal in the 72nd sent the three points Fulham's way.
“We didn’t play our best today,” Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic said. “We didn’t play a brilliant game, but at the end after a very soft start to the game where we found some problems, we overcame this situation to win. These last two games at home we conceded four goals. Both teams put us in stressful situations without pushing us in the box to defend. We made mistakes and after this kind of situation it’s not easy for us. We need to do better in this kind of situation."
DeAndre Yedlin's Newcastle United drew 2-2 at Norwich City. Ayoze Perez put Newcastle up in the opening minute. Norwich equalized in the 12th and went ahead in the 17th. Jamal Lascelles equalized for Newcastle in the 81st.
“It was an excellent start," Lascelles said. "We moved the ball really well, and Ayoze’s a clever player. If he gets half a chance he normally puts it away, so it gave us a little lift. But after that, we’ve got to really switch on because I think that when we go a goal up, we’re really vulnerable. We need to sort that out and look at ourselves. I ask quite a lot of this team, and we shouldn’t even be in a situation where we’re trying to get a goal back. No team should be able to do that to us."
