WC: Slovenia 2 – USA 2

June 18, 2010 by US Soccer Players

18Jun2010USAMain

The United States had to fight back from trailing 2-0 at the half to split the points and hold onto a chance at advancing out of Group C. Valter Birsa put Slovenia up in the 14th minute and Zlatan Ljubijankic made it 2-0 in the 42nd at Ellis Park. US coach Bob Bradley only made one change from the opener against England, starting Jose Francisco Torres in place of Ricardo Clark. Trailing at the half, Bradley brought on Maurice Edu and Benny Feilhaber in place of Torres and Robbie Findley. Landon Donovan scored one of the best goals of this World Cup to make it 2-1 in the 48th. A strong run from Michal Bradley brought the US even in the 82nd. Maurice Edu thought he had the winner from a Donovan free kick, but the goal was called back for a foul. Replays showed that if there was a foul to be called, it should've gone against Slovenia.

"This team understands how to fight for 90 minutes," Bob Bradley told ESPN's Jeremy Schaap following the game.  "That's something we've seen time and time again."
