WC: USA 1 – Ghana 2 AET

June 26, 2010 by US Soccer Players

Usaflag

The United States exited the World Cup on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Ghana in extra time.  The US fell behind early at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in their knockout stage game, with Kevin-Prince Boateng scoring in the 5th minute.  Boateng’s goal was a result of a misplay in the US midfield, forcing US coach Bob Bradley to make an early change.  Maurice Edu came on for Ricardo Clark in the 31st minute.  Bradley would make another change at halftime, bringing on Benny Feilhaber in favor of Robbie Findley.  The US got a break in the 62nd when Clint Dempsey was brought down in the box.  Landon Donovan converted the penalty to even the score.

With the US dominating the run of play in the second-half, they couldn’t get a winner.  In stoppage time, Ghana once again struck early.  This time it was Asamoah Gyan scoring three minutes into extra time and advancing Ghana to face Uruguay on Friday in the Quarterfinals.
