Canada 0 – USA 0

June 3, 2012 by US Soccer Players

Canada celebrated its soccer association’s centennial with a scoreless draw against the United States on Sunday night at BMO Field in Toronto.  Both teams had trouble generating offense, with Canada putting three of their six shots on target and the USA finishing with three from seven.  The United States had to make a roster adjustment after announcing their 18-man lineup, with Edgar Castillo added in place of Fabian Johnson and starting the game. The United States opens CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying on Friday against Antigua & Barbuda in Tampa, FL (7pm ET – ESPN).

“I think the first half we were doing quite well in terms of possession and moving the ball around,” USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. “I think what we were lacking was creating more chances in the final third to get down to the endlines and get crosses in. We trained on that and wanted to do that more. The second half was more open. Either team could have scored a goal, especially in the last couple of minutes. Overall the result is fine, and we’re now 18 or 19 days into the camp where we have done a lot of hard work. Now we will really be able to focus on the World Cup qualifiers, and we’re looking forward to getting the process started.”
