World Cup Qualifying: Honduras 2 – USA 1

The United States lost to Honduras in their opening game in the final Hexagonal round of World Cup Qualifying.  With Honduras opting for an afternoon start in San Pedro Sula, the USA took the lead when Clint Dempsey scored in the 36th minute.  Honduras equalized three minutes later with Juan Carlos Garcia scoring from a bicycle kick.  Jerry Bengtson scored the winner in the 79th minute. 

Elsewhere in CONCACAF, Costa Rica came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Panama.  Mexico – Jamaica ended scoreless.
