World Cup Qualifying: USA 1 – Honduras 0

June 18, 2013 by US Soccer Players

The United States added three points to the top of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying table on Tuesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium, shutting out Honduras 1-0. Jozy Altidore scored his fourth goal in four games, finishing off Fabian Johnson’s service in the 73rd minute. USA goalkeeper Tim Howard needed one save to keep the clean sheet. The US led 10 to 4 on shots taken, putting five of those on goal.

“A good team finds ways to score and that’s what they did,” USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. “They scored and they deserve a huge compliment. In a game like this, what really matters is that you keep going and be patient and find the goal.”

In the other CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier, Costa Rica beat Panama 2-0. With six games completed, the United States is in 1st-place with 13 points. Costa Rica is 2nd with 11 and Mexico is 3rd with 8. Honduras holds 4th-place with 6 points, leading Panama by a point. The USA travels to Costa Rica for matchday 7 on September 6th.
