CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying: Costa Rica 3 – USA 1

Costa Rica picked up three points in World Cup Qualifying in San Jose on Friday night, beating the United States 3-1. With the US losing midfielder Michael Bradley to a pregame ankle sprain, Costa Rica were up three minutes in at Estadio Nacional when Johnny Acosta scored. Celso Borges made it 2-0 in the 10th minute. Clint Dempsey pulled a goal back for the US from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute. Costa Rica’s Joel Campbell scored their third goal in the 76th minute.

The United States plays Mexico on Tuesday, Sep 10, 2013 in Columbus, OH (8pm ET – ESPN). They will be without Geoff Cameron, Matt Besler, and Jozy Altidore due to yellow card accumulation.

Elsewhere in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying, Mexico lost to Honduras 2-1 at Azteca and Panama – Jamaica finished 0-0.
