Chivas USA forward Erick Torres wins Player of the Week
Two goals in two games in week 17 of the 2014 MLS season wins Chivas USA forward Erick Torres Player of the Week. It helps that both of Torres’s goals were game winners. Torres scored in the 53rd minute in the 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday and got his second game winner against the Montreal Impact on Saturday.
San Jose Earthquakes defender Jason Hernandez described what it was like playing against Torres.
“As a defense, we are bending and bending. Eventually, something has to give. You leave their best player [Eric Torres] open for the goal, you deserve to lose. Anytime you are looking to form a backline you want it to be steady. You want it to be disciplined, but you also want that chemistry. Unfortunately we’ve had injuries and international call-ups resulting in a rotating door for our backline. At the end of the day we are all professionals. We all take our craft very seriously. Whoever steps in should be ready to do the job. We just couldn’t keep the clean sheet tonight.”
Chivas USA is on the road at Vancouver on Saturday. Their 6 points from two games in week 17 has Chivas USA in 8th-place in the Western Conference. Chivas USA is a point behind 7th-place Portland with a game in hand.
