MLS announced the 2014 All-Star Fan XI on Wednesday, the fan selections to start in a 343 lineup to play Bayern Munich on August 6th in Portland, Oregon (9:30pm ET – ESPN2). Eight members of the USMNT 2014 World Cup squad made the All-Star Fan XI, along with USMNT veteran Landon Donovan and Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry and Seattle’s Obafemi Martins.
These selections are not binding on MLS All-Star coach Caleb Porter, who can pick different starting players and does not necessarily have to include these players in the squad. Porter selects 20 players for the game day roster along with two commissioner’s picks. However, these 11 players count as part of the 32 players selected as All-Stars under the terms of the MLS Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Bayern Munich arrives in the United States on July 30th. They play Liga MX club Chivas at Red Bull Arena on July 31st. They travel to Portland on August 2nd with a public training session on August 5th, the day before the 2014 MLS All-Star game.
