USMNT players saw action in the Championship and Liga MX on Tuesday. Eric Lichaj and Nottingham Forest drew with Wigan. In Liga MX, Edgar Castillo and Atlas held on for the win with Ronaldinho scoring in stoppage time for Queretaro.
Eric Lichaj started for Nottingham Forest in their 0-0 draw with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium. Both teams had issues finding the frame, with Nottingham Forest putting two shots on goal to Wigan’s one. Wigan had the edge six to five on corners. Nottingham Forest are 2nd in the Championship, tied on points with leaders Norwich City after ten games.
“We created a few chances where we could have nicked it,” Nottingham Forest first team coach Brian Eastick said. “Michail Antonio at the back post – in the first half and second half – and Jack Hunt got forward and drove a great ball across the box which we very nearly got on the end of. You could possibly say we shaded it on chances in the last 20 minutes or so but overall a point was about right.”
Brek Shea and Jonathan Spector both missed Birmingham City’s 3-1 win over Millwall. Clayton Donaldson (3nd) and David Cotterill (40th) had Birmingham City up two goals when Millwall scored in the 54th minute. Wesley Thomas scored for Birmingham City in the 84th minute. Cotterill assisted on both the Donaldson and Thomas goals.
In Liga MX, Edgar Castillo started for Atlas in their 2-1 win over Queretaro. Enrique Esqueda scored for Atlas in the 31st minute and Edy Brambila made it 2-0 Atlas in the 89th. Ronaldinho pulled a goal back for Queretaro four minutes into stoppage time.
Jose Torres and Herculez Gomez started for Tigres in their 1-1 draw with Santos Laguna. Santos Laguna took the lead in the 21st minute at Estadio Universitario when Javier Orozco scored. Tigres equalized through Edgar Lugo in first-half stoppage time. Gomez subbed out at the half for Emanuel Villa.
