Orlando City midfielder Kaka marked his return from injury with a goal and two assists in the 4-1 win over the Portland Timbers. That performance was good enough for MLS Player of the Week honors for week 5 of the 2016 season. Seb Hines headed in a Kaka free kick in the 13th minute to open the scoring. Kaka setup Brek Shea for the game’s second goal in the 32nd. Kaka scored one of his own in the 48th minute, beating Portland goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey.
“It’s amazing we’re on top of the league and conference today and it gives us a lot of confidence. It gives us confidence for the next game and three more points,” Kaka said.
“Exceptional plays, great goals, big performances from a lot of players,” Orlando City coach Adrian Heath said. “As I said to the players after the game, if we believe in what we do and play with that same intensity, then certainly in this place with our supporters behind us we are a formidable force to deal with and it was a perfect storm with the fans. Incredible crowd even though it’s late on a Sunday night hats off to those supporters. Really pleased with the players.”
