Guzan in goal for Middlesbrough, USMNT players in the Championship

April 17, 2017 by US Soccer Players

sky-bet-championship-logoThere were games on the schedule in the Premier League and Championship on Monday. Brad Guzan got the start for Middlesbrough in a 2-1 home loss to Arsenal. Trailing from the 42nd minute, Alvaro Negredo equalized for Middlesbrough in the 50th. Arsenal won the game in the 71st.

"I couldn’t be more proud of the group of players, they gave every ounce of energy over 94 minutes,” Middlesbrough head coach Steve Agnew said. I told them at half-time we needed to play forward a little earlier, and when we scored the goal we put them under real pressure. Even when we conceded the second we still had chances when the ball went into the box. We tried everything we could from a tactical point of view."

A league down, Tim Ream's Fulham beat Aston Villa 3-1 at Craven Cottage. Ryan Sessegnon put Fulham up in the 17th minute and a 22nd minute red card gave them the man advantage. Aston Villa scored a shorthanded equalizer in the 50th. Sone Aluko put Fulham up for good six minutes later. Neeskens Kebano finished off the Fulham goals in the 79th minute.

Eric Lichaj's Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 at Cardiff City. The game's only goal came in the 70th minute. DeAndre Yedlin subbed out in the 78th minute for Newcastle's 3-1 loss at Ipswich Town. Trailing from the 42nd minute, Daryl Murphy equalized for Newcastle in the 62nd. Ipswich retook the lead in the 69th and scored again three minutes into stoppage time.

Danny Williams and Reading came back to beat Rotherham United 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium. Rotherham went up in the 19th minute with Lewis Grabban equalizing in the 66th. Jon Swift scored Reading's winner in the 79th.
