World Cup qualifying continues on Friday’s soccer TV schedule with the USMNT in action on ESPN. There are plenty of games on the schedule with qualifying in UEFA, CAF, and CONCACAF.
USMNT vs Costa Rica at 7pm on ESPN. The USMNT returns to Hexagonal round action in CONCACAF in 3rd-place, trailing 2nd-place Costa Rica by three points and two goals for the first tiebreaker. 4th-place Panama is a point and three goals behind the USMNT. In the last round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, the USMNT beat Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 at home and drew 1-1 at Mexico. Costa Rica drew 0-0 at home to Panama and beat Trinidad & Tobago 2-1 away.
When I came in, we were behind the eight ball and we didn’t have a whole lot of room to experiment, especially in World Cup Qualifying,” USMNT coach Bruce Arena said. “Everyone here is experienced inside the group, they know what needs to be done, what’s expected of them, our style of play, and how we go about doing things. I think since everyone’s been with us now in 2017, it’ll make what is a really difficult week a little bit easier. People from the outside don’t realize how difficult it is to bring in a team and players from literally all over the world and get them recovered from weekend games and get them prepared for a critically important game on Friday. It’s a real challenge, and to have a group that’s together now that has tasted some success in 2017 should allow it to be a smooth transition into this game on Friday.”
