MLS went with a short schedule due to the international break, with only six teams in action. The New York Red Bulls shutout Vancouver 3-0 at home. Daniel Royer opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with Bradley Wright-Phillips doubling the lead in the 58th. Felipe finished off the goals in the 72nd minute. Luis Robles kept the clean sheet with one save.
Minnesota United and Sporting KC drew 1-1 at TCF Bank Stadium. Sporting's Diego Rubio scored two minutes into first-half stoppage time. United's Brent Kallman equalized in the 84th minute. Minnesota finished a man down with a red card to Joseph Greenspan a minute into stoppage time for picking up his second yellow for unsporting behavior.
"It's always a difficult situation," Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said of playing during the international break. "You lose a lot of continuity within your team. I'm a big believer that every game is a big one, but obviously at this point in the season everything means a little more due to knowing where everyone stands and who you are going after. I think at this point in the season when guys are gone for qualifiers or national team exhibition games, it's difficult but you still have to find a way. I think we did enough to walk away with three points."
Colorado and Dallas drew 1-1 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Stefan Aigner put Colorado up in the 15th with Atiba Harris scoring Dallas's equalizer in the 54th.
"Well at his point obviously we need to add the three points and keep looking for that spot in the playoffs, which makes it harder when we don’t get the three points," Dallas coach Oscar Pareja said. "At the same time, the evaluation of the game is positive. I see the team with the determination to go to the front. In the first half, we were a little bit passive in certain moments. Colorado gets a play when we lose concentration and they score, but after that I thought we controlled the game. We were protagonist of the game all the time. We had all the ball. Our possession and the way we treated chances were very good. We started missing that last touch that can punish things. At the end of the day, that's what gives you points."
