The 2017-18 Champions League group stage continues on Tuesday’s soccer TV schedule. Manchester United hosts Benfica and Chelsea is at Roma. Manchester United vs Benfica at 3:45pm on FS1 in Champions League group A. Manchester United leads the group with nine points from three games. Looking at the rest of the group, you might expect to see Benfica in 2nd-place. Instead, it’s Basel three points behind United. Benfica is in last place with no points and a -7 goal difference. In the last group A match day, Manchester United beat then 1-0 in Portugal. Domestically, Manchester United shutout Spurs 1-0 at home on Saturday. They’re in 2nd-place in the Premier League. Benfica shutout Feirense 1-0 at home. They’re in 3rd-place in the Primeira Liga.
“I think we all feel [that we have to win] every match,” Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said following the win over Spurs. “That’s why I was so disappointed at Huddersfield, because it looked like in that match that we didn’t know the responsibility, we didn’t know the ambition, we didn’t know that every point is a precious point. Today if we drew the match, or even in the last minute we concede a goal and lose 1-0, I would never be against the players because I felt that from minute one, every ball was like the last ball of their careers. They gave absolutely everything, so I’m really happy with them and, obviously, the result.”
