Week 19 of the 2018 MLS season resumed with Atlanta shutting out Philadelphia 2-0 on the road. Josef Martinez converted a 58th minute penalty and had the second assist on Hector Villalba's goal in the 76th. Brad Guzan made three saves to keep the clean sheet.
"It was very important, a big bounce back game for us," Atlanta defender Michael Parkhurst said. "We have talked about how we do not want to lose consecutive games in a row this season. We have been able to avoid that and that is a big reason why we are at the top of the table."
Montreal beat Colorado 2-1 at Stade Saputo. Saphir Taider scored Montreal's goals in the 55th and 56th minutes. Dominique Badji pulled a goal back in the 78th.
New England and Seattle finished 0-0 at Gillette Stadium. Both teams finished with one shot on goal each.
"The onus was on us to go out and play." New England coach Brad Friedel said. "They only wanted a draw. Brian Schmetzer said even after the game, ‘Sorry we played like that, but we had to.’ I don’t know why they had to. I know they’re in a bad situation this season, but they still have some wonderful players on the team. But, any system that gets put in front of you, you have to try to break it down."
Sporting KC and Toronto drew 2-2 at Children's Mercy Park. Jonathan Osorio put Toronto up in the 25th. Sporting's Ille Sanchez equalized from the penalty spot in the 57th with Johnny Russell scoring in the 61st. Jordan Hamilton equalized for Toronto in the 69th minute.
"Third game in six days," Toronto midfielder Michael Bradley said. "Sporting is a good team in their stadium. We'll take our point and move on. We'll continue to build on this. We talked a lot today about the idea that this was the first game of the second half of the season. It's pretty clear what we have to do from here on in. We've got to win our fair share of games. But there's going to be days where we can't win and we've got to find ways to pick up points. From that standpoint, a lot of positives tonight."
Houston shutout Minnesota 3-0 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Philippe Senderos scored in the 36th and 52nd minutes with Alberth Elis adding a goal two minutes into stoppage time. Joe Willis made one save for the clean sheet.
Real Salt Lake shutout FC Dallas 2-0 at home. Albert Rusnak converted a penalty in the 11th minute with Luis Silva scoring a minute into stoppage time. Nick Rimando made one save for the clean sheet.
"It’s something that we focused on these last three games… to get results at home and away," Dallas defender Victor Ulloa said. "Six out of nine points isn’t bad. We’re still a little bit sour, but looking at the big picture, we’re satisfied with the team’s performance. It’s not time to panic, just time to regroup and get ready for the next game."
Vancouver beat Chicago 3-2 at BC Place. Kei Kamara put the Whitecaps up in the 28th minute with Nemanja Nikolic equalizing in the 42nd. Jordon Mutch scored for Vancouver in the 47th with Kamara getting his second goal of the game in the 72nd minute. Tony Tchani pulled a goal back for Chicago in the 81st.
"We are not happy with the end result," Chicago midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger said. "We gave away three goals, it's too much, then it's not easy to win the game. Some minutes we played well, we had possession, we played to the right player, and in some parts, we didn't. We gave away the goals and we lost."
The LA Galaxy shutout the Columbus Crew 4-0 at StubHub Center. The Galaxy goals started with Ola Kamara scoring in the 42nd minute. Zlatan Ibrahimovic converted a penalty in the 56th. Romain Alessandrini added goals in the 67th and three minutes into stoppage time. David Bingham made five saves for the clean sheet.
LAFC beat Orlando City 4-1 at home. Adama Diomande opened the scoring for LA in the 28th with Latif Blessing doubling their lead in the 32nd. Sacha Kljestan pulled a goal back for Orlando in the 59th minute. Diomande scored again in the 82nd with Blessing assisting on Diego Rossi's goal in the 84th.
Portland beat San Jose 2-1 at Providence Park. Samuel Armenteros scored for Portland in the 14th and 53rd minutes with Diego Valeri assisting on both goals. Florian Jungwirth got San Jose's goal in the 87th.
"It's a very tough place to play," Jungwirth said. "Portland is one of the best teams in the Western Conference. Probably has one of the best atmospheres in the league, maybe with Atlanta now, so it's a very hard place to win. If they get an early goal it gets harder and harder. It's always hard to play at Portland and get points."
In the week 19 finale, NYCFC shutout the Red Bulls 1-0 at Yankee Stadium. Maxi Moralez scored in the 85th minute with Sean Johnson keeping the clean sheet with four saves.
