USMNT 0 – Brazil 2

US National Team lineup for Brazil friendly

Another young version of the USMNT took the field against Brazil on Friday night at MetLife Stadium. With Brazil starting a competitive lineup including Neymar, Douglas Cosa, and Roberto Firmino the challenge was there for the US defense.

Firmino opened the scoring in the 11th minute with Neymar converting a penalty in the 43rd. The USMNT defense did well to keep the score low, with Matt Miazga making a goal line clearance. Will Trapp forced the first Brazil save of the game in the 72nd minute, with the opportunities not arriving for the United States.

Given the nature of the game, both teams went to the bench. USMNT coach Dave Sarachan replaced his attackers with Tim Weah coming on for Julian Green, Kellyn Acosta for Paul Arriola, and Gyasi Zardes for Bobby Wood. Brazil coach Tite also subbed out his attack with Richarlison coming on for Firmino, Willian for Costa, and Everton for Neymar.

“We played one of the best teams in the world,” Sarachan told FS1. “I think that we were a little nervy. We probably should’ve done a little better with the ball and had a little patience, but that’s why you play these games. The experience of this game I think is going to go a long way with this young group.”
