The soccer news starts with the USMNT players in Europe and Mexico. In the Premier League, DeAndre Yedlin subbed out in the 82nd minute for Newcastle United's 2-1 loss at Chelsea. Failing behind in the 9th minute, Ciaran Clark equalized in the 40th. Chelsea scored their winner in the 57th minute.
"We’ll look at that performance and take belief out of it," Clark said. "We’ve come away to Stamford Bridge and put a really good effort in, put ourselves about and on another day, we could have nicked a draw or even got the win. It’s disappointing to come away with nothing."
Tim Ream's Fulham lost 2-1 at home to Burnley in a game where Fulham scored all three goals. Andre Schurrle put Fulham up in the 2nd minute. An own-goal leveled the score in the 20th with another own-goal putting Burnley up for good three minutes later.
"We played well," Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri said. "We deserved minimum a draw. But that’s football. I’m satisfied with the performance, not the result. Second half we played much better. We moved the ball quickly, found good solutions on the flanks for crosses, but we shot at goal only twice or three times, and one time they saved on the line. I think that episode changed the music.”
