Christian Pulisic scored for Borussia Dortmund in their DFB Pokal loss on penalties to Werder Bremen. The game ended 1-1 in regulation and 3-3 after extra time, with Werder advancing 4-3 on penalties. Josh Sargent and Aron Johannsson weren't in the squad for Werder Bremen.
Milot Rashica put Werder Bremen up in the 5th minute with Marco Reus equalizing for Dortmund in first-half stoppage time. In extra time, Pulisic scored in the 105th with Cluadio Pizarro equalizing three minutes later. Dortmund retook the lead through an Achraf Hakimi goal in the 113th with Martin Harnik equalizing in the 119th. Borussia Dortmund opened the penalty stage with two misses while Werder Bremen converted all of their attempts to take the Third Round game 4-2.
"It was no surprise that it was going to be a difficult match against Werder Bremen," Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre said. "After Bremen took an early lead, we controlled the game. They played very compactly. It was difficult to find the gaps. We played with patience and the equaliser at 1-1 before the break was deserved. Bremen were always dangerous.
Jonathan Bornstein's Maccabi Netanya shutout Maccabi Petah Tikva 1-0 in the Israeli Cup. In the Copa MX, Ventura Alvarado's Necaxa lost 3-1 at Club America. Falling behind to a 35th minute penalty and a 46th minute goal, Ricardo Monreal scored for Necaxa in the 53rd. Club America scored their third goal in the 69th minute. America is undefeated in group D, six points ahead of Necaxa and San Luis both with three points.
Omar Gonzalez subbed out in the 85th minute with Atlas beating Universidad Guadalajara 4-2 away. Trailing from the 28th minute, Jesus Molina equalized for Atlas in the 32nd. Falling behind again in the 35th, Facundo Barcelo equalized in first-half stoppage time. Universidad Guadalajara went a man down in the 51st with Barcelo putting Atlas up for good in the 63rd. Universidad Guadalajara saw another red card in the 78th. Jefferson Duque finished off the Atlas goals in the 83rd minute. Atlas is tied on points with UNAM Pumas at the top of group I with six, with UNAM Pumas top on goal difference +2 to +1.

In an update to yesterday's soccer news, FIFA announced that the only candidate for the 2019 presidential election is incumbent Gianni Infantino. Though not exactly surprising, there was talk of rival candidates. Now, the FIFA election and UEFA's presidential election will reelect the current presidents.
USMNT player Terrence Boyd is now a member of Toronto FC, leaving 2.Bundesliga club Darmstadt. “We are excited to welcome Terrence and his family to the club," Toronto GM Ali Curtis said. "Terrence is a player that we’ve tracked for years during his time with the US National Team and in Germany,” said Toronto FC General Manager Ali Curtis. “He is an experienced, attacking player that is capable of scoring goals in MLS. We’re looking forward to him joining our preseason and integrating himself into the group.”
