Goals for both USMNT players in the Premier League
The soccer news starts in the Premier League with DeAndre Yedlin and Christian Pulisic both scoring in wins for their clubs. Yedlin’s Newcastle beat Bournemouth 2-1 at home. Trailing from the 14th minute, Yedlin equalized in the 42nd with Ciaran Clark scoring in the 52nd.
“We know how crucial back-to-back wins are in the Premier League,” Newcastle manager Steve Bruce said. “So it was vitally important, especially after the first twenty minutes when Bournemouth caused us all sorts of problems and got off to a great set piece and a quality goal.… After that we had to dig in a little bit, show a bit of mettle. Overall, the longer it went I thought there’s only going to be one winner.”
Cheslea shutout Crystal Palace 2-0 at home with Pulisic scoring the second goal. Tammy Abraham put Chelsea up in the 52nd with Pulisic doubling the lead in the 79th. Pulisic subbed out in the 80th minute.
“I cut inside, played the ball into Michy and he shot,” Pulisic said. “I just got in the box, sometimes it comes to you, sometimes it doesn’t, and luckily it kind of bounced right to me. That helped us a lot. We deserved it, we had a lot of chances we should have scored, and it was a good result in the end.”
Geoff Cameron’s QPR drew 2-2 at home with Middlesbrough. Trailing from the 23rd minute, QPR’s Nahki Wells equalized in the 25th. An own-goal put QPR up in the 44th minute with Middlesbrough equalizing in the 69th. Cameron saw yellow in the 89th minute. Eric Lichaj’s Hull City lost 1-0 at home to West Brom. The game’s only goal came in the 28th minute. Lichaj picked up a yellow card in stoppage time. Matt Miazga’s Reading shutout Luton Town 3-0 at home. Michael Morrison put Reading up in the 22nd with Ovie Ejaria scoring in the 30th. Garath McCleary finished off the goals in the 79th minute. Tim Ream’s Fulham won 1-0 at Birmingham City. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored in the 52nd minute with Marek Rodak keeping the clean sheet.
Antonee Robinson’s Wigan lost 3-0 at home to Brentford. Wigan fell behind to goals in the 5th and 70th minutes, going a man down with a red card to Cedric Kipre in the 73rd. Brentford scored again in the 83rd, seeing a red card seven minutes into stoppage time. Duane Holmes subbed out in the 72nd minute for Derby County’s 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest. The goal came in the 56th minute.
Matthew Olosunde subbed out in the 62nd minute for Rotherham United’s 3-1 win at Maidenhead United in the FA Cup First Round. Trailing from the 25th, Rotherham went a man up in the 54th minute. Michael Ihiekwe equalized in the 69th. Freddie Ladapo put Rotherham up for good in the 75th with Matt Crooks scoring in the 78th minute.
In a meeting of the Americans in the Bundesliga, Weston McKennie’s Schalke drew 3-3 at home with Alfredo Morales and Zack Steffen’s Fortuna Dusseldorf. Daniel Caliguiri put Schalke up in the 33rd with Rouwen Hennings equalizing from the penalty spot in the 62nd. Schalke went ahead again through an Ozan Kabak goal in the 67th. Hennings scored again for Fortuna in the 74th. Suat Serdar made it 3-2 Schalke in the 79th. Hennings finished off his hat-trick with an 85th minute goal. Josh Sargent subbed on in the 81st minute for Werder Bremen’s 3-1 loss at Gladbach. Ramy Bensebaini scored for Gladbach in the 20th with Patrick Hermann adding goals in the 22nd and 59th minutes. Gladbach went a man down with a red card to Ramy Bensebaini in the 87th. Leonardo Bittencourt scored for Werder Bremen three minutes into stoppage time.
Julian Green scored in Furth’s 3-2 loss at Sandhausen in the 2.Bundesliga. Green put Furth up in the 14th. Sandhausen equalized from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time. Branimir Hrgota returned Furth’s lead in the 52nd. Sandhausen responded with goals in the 64th and three minutes into stoppage time. Terrence Boyd’s Hallescher lost 1-0 at home to 1860 Munich in the 3.Liga. The goal came in the 39th minute.
Sergino Dest subbed on in the 55th minute for Ajax’s 4-0 home win over FC Utrecht. Donny van de Beek scored in the 14th with Dusan Tadic making it 2-0 in the 24th. Van de Beek scored again in the 40th with Lisandro Martinez finishing off the goals in the 66th minute. Tyler Boyd subbed on in the 76th minute for Besiktas in their 1-0 home win over Denizlispor. Georges-Kevin Nkoudou scored in the 70th minute. Luis Gil subbed out in the 84th minute for Viktoria Zizkov’s 2-1 home win over Usti nad Labem. Jaroslav Divis scored for Zizkov in the 14th with Filip Halgos doubling the lead in the 74th. Usti nad Labem scored in the 83rd minute. Erik Palmer-Brown’s Austria Wien beat Mattersburg 2-1 at home. Alexander Grunwald opened the scoring for the Violets in the 14th minute with Thomas Ebner doubling the lead in the 50th. Mattersburg pulled a goal back in the 77th.
Shaq Moore’s Tenerife lost 1-0 at Girona. Tenerife’s Aitor Sanz saw red in the 44th with Girona converting a penalty in the 63rd minute. Andrija Novakovich subbed on in the 57th minute for Frosinone’s 2-0 home win over Chievo Verona in Serie B. Federico Dionisi opened the scoring in the 20th minute with Loca Paganini making it 2-0 in the 53rd.
