The CONCACAF Championship stopped happening biannually after 1973 and switched to every four years for a total of ten tournaments. The 1973, ’77, ’81, ’85, and ’89 tournaments also served as World Cup qualifying. The Gold Cup replaced the CONCACAF Championship in 1991.
