Arnie Mausser

Biography of retired USMNT soccer player and National Soccer Hall of Famer Arnie Mausser.
Caps: 35 | Shutouts: 10

Famous as the North American Soccer League keeper that kicked left but threw right, Arnie Mausser was the top American keeper during the height of the NASL. Never sticking with one club very long, he played with seven different NASL clubs over ten seasons. Mausser was elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame as part of the 2003 NASL induction.

USMNT Experience

1985

Blocked a Glenn Hoddle penalty against England on June 16th at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. At the time, Mausser was playing without a club team.

1980

In goal for the qualifiers for  Spain '82.

1979

Started home and home friendlies against France on May 2nd at Giants Stadium and Oct. 10th in Paris. These are the only games the US has ever played against France.

1978

Started the September European  tour.

1976

Shutout against Mexico in a World Cup qualifier on Oct. 3rd at the LA Coliseum, considered one of the biggest results in US soccer history at the time, even though the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

1975

Made his debut  against Poland in Seattle on June 24th.

Professional Experience

1992

Final season in Fort Lauderdale,  playing in the five team APSL facing increased competition from the  USISL.

1991

Back with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

1990

Played with the  Albany Capitals after the ASL merged with the WSL to form the American  Professional Soccer League.

1988-89

Member of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers  in the American Soccer League.

1984

Spends the last season of the NASL back  with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

1983

Joins Team America, the NASL version of the  US National Team playing at DC's RFK Stadium.

1979-82

Member of the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers. Traded to the New England Tea Men midway thought the 1980 season and moves with that team back to Florida as the Jacksonville Tea Men. The '81 Jacksonville squad makes it to the conference semifinals, the farthest playoff run of his career and Mausser led the league in keeper stats.

1977

Traded to the Vancouver  Whitecaps.

1976

Traded to the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Made the NASL All-Star team  and named American Player of the Year.

1975

Signs with the Hartford  Bicentennials.

1974

Member of the American Soccer League's Rhode Island  Oceaneers.

Youth and College

Played in Brooklyn leagues growing up.
