Klinsmann names roster for January 2015 USMNT camp
UPDATE: US Soccer announced that new Toronto FC signing Jozy Altidore will join the camp along with FC Dallas player Matt Hedges who replaces Brad Evans (tendonitis).
USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann selected 28 layers for the annual January training camp that opens on the 12 in Carson, CA. Training moves to Santiago, Chile from Jan 25-29 playing Chile in a friendly in Rancagua on Jan 28 (5pm Et – Fox Sports 1). Camp continues into February in Carson, concluding with a friendly against Panama on Feb 8 at StubHub Center (4pm ET – ESPN).
“The prize in 2015 for the senior National Team is the Gold Cup, and this camp will give a lot of our players a chance to kick start their preparations for an important year,” Klinsmann said. “We also get an opportunity to introduce the next wave of young players into the program, and in particular work with many of our Olympic-age guys as they build toward qualifying for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.”
As Klinsmann alluded to, the squad is a mix of players with World Cup veterans and 12 players eligible to represent the USA in the 2016 Olympics.
