Puerto Rico 1 – USMNT 3

Paul Arriola got his first cap and his first international goal for the USMNT in their 3-1 win over Puerto Rico on Sunday in Bayamon. USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann took advantage of his transitional roster to give minutes to players he didn’t include in his Copa Centenario roster announced on Saturday. That also meant the first cap for Fafa Picault of St Pauli, a former North American Soccer League player.

The USMNT opened the scoring in the 20th minute with Tim Ream netting his first goal for the National Team. Bobby Wood made it 2-0 in the 34th. As expected, Puerto Rico looked overmatched from the outset, but that didn’t stop them from pressing their attack. Luis Betancur pulled a goal back for the home side in the 42nd minute. Arriola extended the USMNT’s lead with a 56th minute goal.

Klinmann used all six of his substitutes, bringing on Tim Howard for Brad Guzan at halftime. As part of the Copa Centenario roster announcement, Klinsmann named Guzan the stating goalkeeper for the Copa Centenario. The MLS players on the Copa Centenario roster will join the Copa Centenario players already in camp this week. The Copa Centenario squad plays Ecuador in a friendly on May 25 in Frisco (8pm ET – ESPN2).
