USMNT roster for September World Cup qualifiers
UPDATE: On Monday, US Soccer announced that John Brooks has withdrawn from camp with back issues and Sacha Kljestan has been called in.
USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann named 26 players to his squad for the September World Cup qualifiers. The USMNT plays St Vincent and the Grandines on September 2 (3:30pm ET – beIN Sport) and Trinidad & Tobago on September 5 (8pm ET – Fox Sports 1). Missing from the USMNT roster is Clint Dempsey, ruled out of MLS action over the weekend with an irregular heartbeat.
“What makes us optimistic going into these qualifiers is watching our strikers scoring goals,” Klinsmann said. Clint Dempsey has been back scoring and we wanted to have him here, but of course his health comes first. We’re thinking of Clint and hoping that he will be okay. With our other forwards, Jozy is back scoring. Jordan Morris is doing really well. Then we’ve had the European-based players Bobby Wood and Rubio Rubin starting their season right now. It looks good. Wondolowski is scoring as well, and Gyasi Zardes is also, so that’s a good thing for us. We know our strikers are hungry for goals, and hopefully they can start with that right away in St. Vincent.”
