Gold Cup final: USMNT 2 – Jamaica 1

There was a trophy to play for at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA on Wednesday. Jamaica faced an early issue when their goalkeeper and captain Andre Blake suffered a hand injury. Blake had to sub out in the 22nd minute with backup Dwayne Miller replacing him. Jamaica almost made it out of the half with the game scoreless. Jozy Altidore put the USMNT up in the 45th minute from a free kick.

Jamaica wasn’t done, getting the equalizer from Je-Vaughn Watson in the 50th minute. Clint Dempsey subbed on for the USMNT in the 55th minute, heading the ball into the post in the 75th. With time running out, Jordan Morris scored the game winning goal in the 88th minute.

“It’s unbelievable,” Morris said. “Every time I step on the field it’s such an honor to represent my country. This game was amazing. Credit to Jamaica. They made it very tough for us. I was nervous, it was my guy who scored on the goal. So I was trying to make up for it any way that I could. Obviously I had to take responsibility for that, but luckily I could put one into the back of the net.”

USMNT midfielder Michael Bradley won the Golden Ball and the USMNT won the Fair Play award.
