The USMNT will miss the 2018 World Cup, finishing in 5th-place in the Hexagonal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.

WCQ: Trinidad & Tobago 2 – USMNT 1

The USMNT lost 2-1 to Trinidad & Tobago in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, finishing in 5th-place and missing the 2018 World Cup. Trinidad & Tobago took the early lead from a 17th-minute own-goal at Ato Boldon Stadium. They doubled it when Alvin Jones scored in the 37th minute. Christian Pulisic pulled a goal back in the 47th minute.

In the other CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, Honduras beat Mexico 3-2 in San Pedro Sula. Mexico took the lead in the 17th minute through Oribe Peralta. Alberth Elis equalized for Honduras in the 34th. Carlos Vela put Mexico up in the 39th minute with Honduras equalizing through an own-goal in the 54th. Romell Quioto scored Honduras’s winner in the 60th minute. Panama came back to beat Costa Rica 2-1 at home. Johan Venegas scored for Costa Rica in the 36th minute. Gabriel Torres equalized in the 52nd with Roma Torres scoring Panama’s winner in the 88th minute.

The Hexagonal finished with Panama taking the final automatic qualifying spot in 3rd-place on goal difference. Honduras will face Australia over two-legs in November’s intercontinental playoff. The USMNT finishes in 5th-place, a point behind Panama and Honduras.
