George Bello is an example of how much Atlanta United stressed player development even as they were bringing in big name players. The club started their academy system in 2016 with Bello a part of it. Already an Atlanta area standout, Bello eventually signed as a homegrown player, working his way into the senior side. By 2018 he was splitting time between the reserve team and Atlanta United, making his breakthrough in 2020. A member of the USMNT youth program, he played in the 2019 U-17 World Cup. His first senior cap came in 2021 as part of the Gold Cup winning squad. Bello transferred to Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld in January, 2022.
