Biography of USMNT player Johnny Cardoso who plays his club soccer with Real Betis in La Liga.
Caps: 18
Johnny Cardoso rose into the USMNT reckoning with impressive performances beyond his years for Internacional, where he made his first-team debut at age 17 in 2019 and become a regular starter the following year as the Porto Alegre club shot into the title race in Brazil’s top flight. A cerebral, technical central midfielder with bite, Johnny was born in Denville, New Jersey to Brazilian parents, and earned his first USA call-up in November 2020, earning his first two caps off the bench against Wales and Panama. He also played in every match of the US U-23s’ 2020 Olympic qualifying tournament and was part of the squad that successfully defended the USMNT’s Concacaf Nations League title in 2023. Cardoso moved to Real Betis on December 27, 2023.
