A tenacious ball-winner and natural leader, Tyler Adams is the heartbeat of the USMNT midfield. Rising through the New York Red Bulls academy, Adams quickly proved he belonged at the elite level, making seamless transitions to the German Bundesliga with RB Leipzig and the English Premier League with Leeds United and later Bournemouth. Known for his tactical intelligence and relentless engine, he captained the United States at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, becoming the youngest captain at the tournament. Despite battling significant injuries, Adams remains a pivotal figure for both Bournemouth and the national team, celebrated for his defensive coverage and ability to dictate a game’s tempo.

2025

Started the Concacaf Nations League semifinal, a 1-0 loss against Panama on Mar 20. Started the 3rd-place game against Canada, a 2-1 loss on Mar 23. Subbed on in the 2-1 friendly loss to Turkey on Jun 7. In the Gold Cup, subbed on in the 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia on Jun 19 and started in the 2-1 win over Haiti on Jun 22. Started the quarterfinal win over Costa Rica on Jun 29, drawing 2-2 in regulation and advancing 4-3 on penalties. Started the 2-1 semifinal win over Guatemala on Jul 2, and the 2-1 loss to Mexico in the Gold Cup final on Jul 6. Started in the 2-0 friendly loss to Korea on Sep 6 and the 2-0 win over Japan on Sep 9.

2024

Adams produced one of the most memorable moments of the year in the Concacaf Nations League Final against Mexico on March 24. Subbed on in the 3-1 win over Jamaica after extra time in the Nations League semifinals on Mar 21. Started and scored against Mexico in the 2-0 Nations League final win on Mar 24. Named to the Nations League Best XI. Subbed on in the 1-1 friendly draw with Brazil on Jun 12. Started all three Copa America games: the 2-1 win over Bolivia on Jun 23, the 2-1 loss to Panama on Jun 27, and the 1-0 loss to Uruguay on Jul 1.

2023

Named 2022 US Soccer Male Player of the Year on Jan 13. Adams did not appear for the USMNT in 2023 due to a long-term hamstring injury that required surgery and extensive rehabilitation.

2022

In World Cup Qualifying, started in the 1-0 win over El Salvador on Jan 27 and the 2-0 loss to Canada on Jan 30. Started the 0-0 draw at Mexico on Mar 24, the 5-1 win over Panama on Mar 27, and the 2-0 loss to Costa Rica on Mar 30. Started the 3-0 friendly win over Morocco on Jun 2 and the 0-0 draw with Uruguay on Jun 5. Started the 1-1 draw with El Salvador in the Nations League on Jun 14. Started all four World Cup games in Qatar: the 1-1 draw with Wales on Nov 21, the 0-0 draw with England on Nov 25, the 1-0 win over Iran on Nov 29, and the 3-1 round of 16 loss to the Netherlands on Dec 3. Started in the 2-0 friendly loss to Japan on Sep 23 and the 0-0 draw with Saudi Arabia on Sep 27. Won the US Soccer Male Player of the Year award

2021

Subbed on in the Nations League final against Mexico on June 6, helping close out the 3-2 win in extra time. Started the 4-0 friendly win against Costa Rica on Jun 9. In Concacaf World Cup Qualifying, Adams started against El Salvador in the 0-0 draw on Sep 2, against Canada in the 1-1 draw on Sep 5, and the 4-1 win at Honduras on Sep 8. Started the 2-0 win over Jamaica on Oct 7, subbed on in the 1-0 loss to Panama on Oct 10, and started in the 2-1 win over Costa Rica on Oct 13. Started in the 2-0 win over Mexico on Nov 12 and the 1-1 draw with Jamaica on Nov 16.

2020

Started against Wales on Nov 12 and Panama on Nov 16 in a schedule shortened by the pandemic.

2019

Adams made just one appearance due to injury, starting the 1-0 friendly win over Ecuador on March 21.

2018

Started in the 0-0 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Jan 28. Started in the 1-0 win over Paraguay on Mar 27. Started in the 2-1 loss at Ireland on Jun 2 and the 1-1 draw at France on Jun 9. Started in the 2-0 loss to Brazil on Sep 7 and scored his first international goal in the 1-0 win over Mexico on Sep 11. Subbed on in the 3-0 loss to England on Nov 15 and started against Italy in the 1-0 loss on Nov 20.

2017

Adams made his senior international debut on November 14, starting and playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Portugal.

Professional Experience

2025-26

Adams had 15 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth before a Dec 15 injury. Adams injured his MCL, needing surgery and between two and three months to recover.

2024-25

Adams played in 28 games for Bournemouth, finishing 9th in the Premier League.

2023-24

Transferred to Bournemouth on Aug 20, 2023. Played in three games dealing with injury issues. Bournemouth finished 12th in the Premier League.

2022-23

Transferred to Leeds United in the Premier League on Jul 6, 2022, playing in 24 games and finishing 19th.

2021-22

Won the DFB Pokal with Leipzig, finishing 4th in the Bundesliga.

2020-21

Finished 2nd with RB Leipzig, advancing to the DFB Pokal final.

2019-20

A 3rd-place finish with RB Leipzig, advancing to the semifinals of the Champions League.

2018-19

Eligible to play for RB Leipzig in January, 2019 he quickly became a regular in the squad finishing in 3rd-place in the Bundesliga.

2018

In his final season with the Red Bulls, Adams had 27 appearances as part of the Supporters' Shield winning squad. He signed with RB Leipzig in December.

2017

Breakout season for Adams, locking down a role with the Red Bulls and appearing in 24 league games and the playoffs.

2015

With the Red Bulls academy since 2011, Adams emerged as a regular with Red Bulls II. Playing in USL, he made 11 appearances. With the Red Bulls, he scored against Chelsea in a friendly and signed for the senior squad.

Youth and College

Growing up in Wappingers Falls, New York, Adams joined the Red Bulls Regional Development School at age 12, becoming the first player to graduate from the Red Bulls Regional Development School to the first team.
