Panama 2 – USMNT 3

October 15, 2013 by US Soccer Players

Two stoppage time goals saw the USMNT finish their World Cup Qualifying with a 3-2 win at the expense of Panama, who would’ve advanced to the CONCACAF/Oceania playoff game with a win. Instead, Mexico faces New Zealand for the final World Cup spot. With the USMNT already qualified and assured of first-place in the group, a lineup featuring several changes fell behind to an 18th minute Gabriel Torres goal. Michael Orozco equalized in the 64th minute, but Panama was in front by the 84th when Luis Tejada scored. Graham Zusi equalized for the USMNT two minutes into stoppage time and Aron Johannsson scored the winner a minute later.

The United States takes the top spot in the Hexagonal. Costa Rica finishes second with a 2-1 win over Mexico in San Jose. Honduras is third after drawing Jamaica 2-2 in Kingston. Mexico finish fourth and qualify for the playoff with New Zealand.
