Jurgen Klinsmann names USMNT roster for Ecuador friendly
USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann called in 22 players for the USMNT vs Ecuador friendly in East Hartford, Connecticut on October 10. Klinsmann plans to alter the roster before the second October USMNT friendly against Honduras in Boca Raton, Florida on Oct 14.
The roster is notable for several reasons. This is the last time Landon Donovan will appear for the USMNT. It’s also an opportunity for an NASL player. Minnesota United FC player Miguel Ibarra becomes the first NASL player to get a USMNT call-up. Since this is an international release window, Klinsmann had his choice of players. However, MLS opted to schedule games during the window complicating things for Klinsmann.
“We look at these two games as an opportunity to take a picture of the player pool as it stands now,” Klinsmann said. “Already the hierarchy starts to shift in some ways, which is normal at the beginning of a cycle. We are excited to look at this group against a very competitive team like Ecuador, and then we will have a chance to bring some different faces for the game against Honduras. Obviously, it’s going to be a special night on Friday as everyone in the U.S. Soccer family will have the chance to honor the amazing career of Landon Donovan.”
