The USMNT won its Group A opener at the 2015 Gold Cup with two goals from Clint Dempsey in the 2-1 win over Honduras.

Gold Cup: USMNT 2 – Honduras 1

The USMNT began its 2015 Gold Cup Group A schedule on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over Honduras at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The opening night win gives the USMNT the lead in Group A.

Clint Dempsey scored both USMNT goals. He started the scoring with a 25th minute header. Dempsey used his head for the second goal as well, doubling the lead in the 64th minute. Honduras substitute Carlos Discua pulled a goal back shortly after subbing on.

In the Group A opener, Panama and Haiti drew 1-1. Alberto Quintero scored for Panama in the 56th minute with Sony Norde equalizing for Haiti in the 86th. Group A continues on July 10 with Honduras vs Panama and the USMNT vs Haiti at Gillette Stadium.
