Josh Sargent emerged as an attacking force from IMG Academy, drawing the attention of European clubs. He signed with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga but had to wait until he turned 18 to officially join the club.

After playing for the USMNT at U-17, U-20, and U-23 level, Sargent made his debut for the full national team in 2018. That same year he emerged as an option for Werder Bremen getting his first games in the Bundesliga.
