USMNT 2 – Panama 0

The USMNT closed out their annual January camp with a friendly against Panama.  USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann once again experimented with his setup, reorganizing his defense against Panama. Klinsmann opted for a back four after using a 3-5-2 in the friendly loss against Chile. Brek Shea joined Matt Besler, Jermaine Jones, and DeAndre Yedlin in the back line.

Michael Bradley opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a corner kick that curled in over Jozy Altidore and into the back of the Panama net. Clint Dempsey made it 2-0 in the 37th minute connecting with a pass from Gyasi Zardes that beat Panama’s back line.

Klinsmann subbed goalkeepers at halftime, bringing on Sean Johnson for Nick Rimando. He also swapped out Altidore for Chris Wondolowski due to tightness in Altidore’s right hamstring. Klinsmann debuted two players at full USMNT level, subbing on DC United’s Perry Kitchen and FC Dallas’s Matt Hedges. Klinsmann also brought on Lee Nguyen and Luis Gil, using all six of his substitutions.
