Netherlands 3 – USMNT 4
The USMNT came back to shock the Netherlands 4-3 at Amsterdam ArenA on Friday. The USMNT fell behind in the 27th minute to a Klaas Jan Huntelaar goal. Gyasi Zardes equalized for the USMNT in the 33rd with Fabian Johnson assisting.
Huntelaar put the Dutch back in front in the 49th with new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay stretching the lead in the 53rd. John Brooks pulled a goal back for the USMNT in the 70th minute with DeAndre Yedlin assisting. Danny Williams shocked the home fans with an 89th minute equalizer.
There was a bigger shock to come just a minute later when Jordan Morris setup Bobby Wood for the USMNT’s winner. The USMNT continues their European road trip against Germany in Cologne on Wednesday (2:45pm ET – Fox Sports 1).
“I think the takeaways were definitely that it’s very encouraging to see all of our group coming back in a game that when you are two goals down and it’s not looking so positive for a bit of time, and then having the courage and the energy to take it back to Holland and obviously turn the thing around,” USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. “It’s wonderful to see young players coming through with confidence and also taking risks and trying to surprise their opponents. They definitely made some mistakes, otherwise you don’t concede three goals, but I think that when we look at the entire game that we actually deserved to win.”
