Gold Cup: Panama 1 – USMNT 1

July 13, 2015 by US Soccer Players

With the USMNT already in the quarterfinals of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup as group winners, they finished their Group A schedule drawing 1-1 with Panama at Sporting Park in Kansas City. The USMNT trailed from the 34th minute when Blas Perez scored.

USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann once again experimented with his lineup, returning to the defenders he used in the opening Group A game against Guatemala and leaving Clint Dempsey on the bench. Dempsey subbed on to start the second-half alongside DeAndre Yedlin. The USMNT attack saw more of the ball after only taking two shots in the first-half. Alejandro Bedoya found Michael Bradley in the box for the USMNT equalizer in the 55th minute.

In the early game, Haiti shutout Honduras 1-0. That result eliminated Honduras. Haiti’s Duckens Nazon scored the game’s only goal in the 14th minute. Haiti finish in 2nd-place advancing to the quarterfinals. Panama will wait on other results to see if they advance as one of the two 3rd-place teams.

The USMNT will be without John Brooks for the quarterfinal after Brooks picked up a yellow card. Klinsmann can make six changes to his squad, limited to players he named to the provisional roster but didn’t include in his 23-man squad.
