Tanner Tessmann got his start in professional soccer in FC Dallas’s academy system, joining them as a Homegrown Player in 2020. His season and a half with Dallas resulted in a move to Venezia in the summer of 2021, moving from MLS to Serie A. Relegated with Venezia, Tessmann played two seasons in Serie B before a move to Lyon in Ligue 1 for the 2024-25 season. At international level, Tessmann earned his first cap in 2021.

Started against Panama in the Nations League semifinals on Mar 21st and subbed on in the 3rd-place game on Mar 23. Started against Ecuador on Oct 11 and against Australia on Oct 15.

A member of the US Olympic team. For the senior USMNT, subbed on against Panama on Oct 13 and against Mexico on Oct 16. Started at Jamaica on Nov 15 and against Jamaica on Nov 19 in the Nations League quarterfinals.

2024-25
Joined Ligue 1 club Lyon, playing in 25 games and scoring a goal in his first season in France's topflight. Lyon finished 6th and qualified for Europe.
2023-24
Played in 37 games for Venezia with six goals and finishing in 3rd-place. Venezia exited the promotion playoffs in the preliminary round.
2022-23
A regular with Venezia in Serie B, playing in 32 games and scoring three goals. Venezia finished 8th.
2021-22
Started the season with FC Dallas, playing in seven games before joining Venezia on Jul 15. Played in 20 Serie A games with Venezia, with the club relegated to Serie B after finishing 20th.
2020
Made his debut with FC Dallas, playing in 19 games. Dallas finished 6th in the Western Conference, advancing to the conference semifinals.
2019
Spent the season in USL League One with North Texas, FC Dallas's affiliate, playing in 14 games and scoring a goal. North Texas won the League One title.
